Rock Star Dogs: Jane Wiedlin

I remember Jane Wiedlin as the cutest, and coolest, member of the Go-Gos but haven’t followed her to much over the years. That changed recently when I listened to the wonderful interview Paul Myers did with her on his Record Store Day podcast.

Soon after that, it was Wiedlin who wrote my favorite chapter in the L.A. punk history Under The Big Black Sun and then I discovered that she was the inspiration for one of the main characters in the Love & Rockets comic book.

Based on the above photo of Jane with her pets I am guessing that she now has enough filthy rock lucre to have her dogs (???) flown in by space ship from some far-flung intergalactic pet store. Here is an earth-bound Jane Wiedlin rocking out with The Go-Go’s at The Mubuhay Gardens, which was San Francisco’s premier punk venue in 1979:

The Mubuhay, which hosted original acts 7 nights a week throughout the 1980s, closed it’s doors around 1987.
