Growing up in the ’70s, the only David Bowie tracks San Diego’s premier classic rock station, KGB, played were “Changes,” “Space Oddity” and “Suffragette City.” I loved them all. “Fame” was an earlier AM perennial and it was much appreciated on the school bus even if it made for a somewhat eerie, unsettling ride home.

Then, for a couple of great months in 1979, KPRI tried to become number one by adding more adventurous stuff by the likes of Iggy Pop, David Bowie and Talking Heads to their more AOR-leaning rotation. It was too good to last.
